2026 Vinton County National Bank (VCNB)

Acorn Award Scholarship 

Scholarship Overview:

VCNB wishes to recognize local high school seniors in our market area who possess a commitment to their community.  Each December and April, students from each local school with eligible entries will be featured on our social media and eligible for a $500 prize based on social media followers’ participation.  Additionally, a $5,000 scholarship will be awarded to one student within the bank’s market area. Scholarship applications will be reviewed by a panel of VCNB employee judges and announced in May 2026.

Eligibility:

Current high school seniors who live in or attend high school in one of the following counties: Fairfield, Franklin, Hocking, Jackson, Licking, Pickaway, Ross, and Vinton.  Homeschool seniors are eligible if they reside in the aforementioned counties.

You do not need to be a VCNB account holder to be eligible.  Winning students are responsible for tax implications for prize money awarded. Entries must be received by November 15 or March 15 to be eligible for the corresponding semester contest. All eligible applications received between September 1, 2025 and March 15, 2026 will be considered for $5,000 scholarship. 

An eligible entry is one in which a fully answered application is received within the stated time frames by a high school senior in the VCNB eight-county market area.

Only one application will be accepted per applicant regardless of when the application is submitted. Applicants will only be eligible for social media prize within the semester they apply. Use of Artificial Intelligence or a “bot” to gain social media likes or to answer scholarship application questions will result in disqualification of applicant. 

How to enter:  Fill out the VCNB Scholarship entry form online and indicate whether you are applying for the $500 social media award, the $5,000 scholarship, or both. Applicant must submit a head shot for social media use.

NHS Scholarship

2026 National Honor Society (NHS) Scholarship

Since 1946, the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) has awarded more than $30 million in scholarships to outstanding NHS seniors. This year, we are awarding $2 million in scholarships to 600 students. Each year, scholarship recipients are selected based on their demonstration of the four pillars of NHS: Scholarship, Service, Leadership, and Character.

The Hagan Scholarship

The Hagan Scholarship

The Hagan Scholarship is a nationwide, need-based, merit scholarship, designed to help recipients graduate college debt free. The scholarship provides up to $7,500 each semester for up to eight consecutive semesters. Recipients who graduate college while in the Hagan Scholarship Program can apply for a Hagan Graduate Scholarship, good for up to four additional semesters in college providing up to $7,500 each semester.

Eligibility Requirements:

  1. Eligible students can apply regardless of nationality or citizenship.
  2. Must attend a high school located in the U.S. 
  3. Must be a student in the high school graduating class. 
  4. Must have achieved an unweighted 3.50 cumulative GPA or higher. 
  5. Must enroll in a four-year college or university, in the 2026 fall semester.  
  6. Must maintain a four year or less graduation schedule. 
  7. Must work 240 hours from January 1, 2026 until the September 1, 2026.  
  8. Parents 2024 Adjusted Gross Household Income must not have exceeded $100,000.
  9. FAFSA information is not required to apply. (Finalists must provide FAFSA information.)
  10. Must apply for Federal and State grants, if eligible.

Four-Year Full Tuition Scholarship!

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • ✓ Be ACCEPTED to the University of Rio Grande and Rio Grande Community College for the 2026-2027 academic year
  • ✓ Attend a high school in the four county service district of Gallia, Jackson, Meigs, or Vinton (including Buckeye Hills Career Center)
  • ✓ Reside in the four county service district of Gallia, Jackson, Meigs, or Vinton ✓ Have a minimum GPA of 3.2 and a minimum ACT Composite score of 21. Superscore will not be accepted. ACT must be taken prior to application deadline.
  • Before submitting your application, prepare the following documents that will be required:
  • ✓ High school transcript and ACT Composite Score. Superscore will not be accepted. ACT must be taken prior to application deadline. (If transcript with ACT Composite Score has already been submitted by your guidance counselor, no additional copy is needed)
  • ✓ Resume, in correct resume format, listing scholastic achievements, school and community involvement, and/or employment history
  • ✓ Two (2) letters of recommendation (do not include guidance counselors)
  • ✓ Essay – Choosing one of the topics below, essay must be a maximum of two (2) typed, double spaced pages, 12-point font.
    • Topic 1: What does leadership mean to you? Describe areas in your life where you demonstrated leadership and overcame obstacles either through your school, social, or family life.
    • Topic 2: “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” - Nelson Mandela. Describe how you plan to use your education to make a change in the world. Tell us about how you would plan to make that change, and what obstacles you might encounter along the way.
