Active Acorns Poster Contest
The Active Acorns After-school Fitness Club had a recent poster contest entitled "Merry Fit-Mas" for its members. The winners of the contest were (L-R): Emily Doss, Camryn Kirby, Jada Reese, Adam Kamer, and Garrett McNerlin. Great job Active Acorns!

OHES Recognized by ODE
Oak Hill Elementary School is one of 37 schools being recognized by the Ohio Department of Education for improving academic achievement among their students, including many from economically disadvantaged homes.
High Progress Schools of Honor score in the top 10 percent of schools as ranked by gains in reading and mathematics combined proficiency in all tested grades for the past five years. They also are in the top 10 percent for gains in graduation rate during the past five years. The department also considers Adequate Yearly Progress, Value-Added measures of student growth and Local Report Card ratings when determining award selection.
Active Acorns December
For their December 2013 meeting, the Oak Hill Elementary Active Acorns Fitness Club welcomed James McLaughlin of the J3A Jui-Jitsu & Fitness Academy in Jackson. Mr. Laughlin taught the students several Jui-Jitsu moves, as well as spoke of the importance of healthy lifestyles.
Farm to Plate Poster Winners
FFA Presentation at OHES
As part of OHE's Fuel Up to Play 60 Program's "From the Farm to the Plate" educational unit, Program Advisor Alicia Lloyd invited the OHHS FFA Club to come do a presentation for grades 3-5. FFA Advisor Matt Bennett and 16 FFA members did a lesson on vegetables, dairy, and whole grains which the OHE students greatly enjoyed. In the second photo are FFA members Kayla McNeal, Jenna Spees, and Allison McGlone guiding the students in an interactive activity, and in the third photo is FFA member Kelsey Gaines, instructing the students on the importance of vegetables in their diets.

At their November 2013 meeting, the OHES Active Acorns welcomed special guest Todd Crabtree from the Seishin Ryoku Aikido School. The students enjoyed Todd and his student's presentation very much. The Active Acorns Club is made possible by funds received from the NFL's Fuel Up To Play 60 grant OHES received this school year.
