Lesson on Oak Hill's History

In the fall of 2012, third graders of OHES were treated to a lesson about the history of Oak Hill by retired Oak Hill Schools' teacher Mamie Lloyd (pictured left). Mrs. Lloyd brought numerous Welsh items, many photographs of what Oak Hill looked like in the 1940's and 1950's, and also conducted a question/answer session with the students. OHES employee Tonya Lester (pictured above) models a Welsh outfit during Mrs. Lloyd's presentation. The students were very interested in learning about their community, as well as the origins of their last names. Many thanks to Mrs. Lloyd for sharing her vast knowledge of the history of Oak Hill with the students of OHES.FUTP60 Recipe Contest
As part of the NFL Fuel Up to Play 60 grant awarded to OHES for 2012-2013, Mrs. Kamer sponsored a recipe contest called "Foods to Fuel You Up." Students submitted healthy recipes that had to include two of the following ingredients: a low fat dairy item, a whole grain item, a fruit, or a vegetable. The 3rd grade had the most participation and won a grade-level taste-testing party. Individual prize winners were chosen from a random prize drawing. The winners were (front row, L-R) Dillon McNerlin, Jayce Hardin, Walker Fowble, Luke Reese, and Autumn Salmons; (back row, L-R) Zachary Daft, Garrett McNerlin, Adam Kamer, Ashlee Kisor, Luke Stewart, and Myra Dixon.Supplies Donated

FUTP60 Kick-Off

On September 7, 2012 Oak Hill Elementary had its annual NFL Fuel Up to Play 60 Kick-Off. Students and staff who wore shirts of their favorite football teams were entered in a random prize drawing.
Students who brought in a can of soup or package of Ramen noodles to donate to the Growing Oaks Food Program were also given an extra entry in the prize drawing. As a result of the Kick-Off Day, over 715 food items were collected.
Teacher winners (pictured above right) for the FUTP60 Kick-Off were Joye Adkins (left) K-1 Intervention; and Gean Ann Davis (right) 2nd Grade.
